Fes el-Bali is one of the world's most extraordinary cities — a medieval labyrinth of over 9,000 narrow streets, ancient mosques, and bustling souks that has remained virtually unchanged for over 1,000 years. This 2-day cultural tour takes you deep into the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage city with an expert local guide. Day 1 begins at the iconic Blue Gate (Bab Bou Jeloud), the main entrance to the medina. Your guide will lead you through the winding streets to the Bou Inania Madrasa, a stunning example of Marinid architecture with its intricate tilework and carved cedar wood. Continue to the Chouara Tannery, one of the oldest leather tanneries in the world, where you'll watch craftsmen dye leather using traditional methods unchanged since the 11th century. Afternoon exploration of the ancient souks — each street dedicated to a different craft. Day 2 focuses on the spiritual and intellectual heart of Fes. Visit the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University, founded in 859 AD and recognized as the world's oldest continuously operating university. Explore the Mellah (Jewish Quarter) and the Andalusian Quarter, built by refugees from Muslim Spain. End with a visit to the Nejjarine Fountain and Museum of Wooden Arts before a farewell lunch at a traditional riad.
